A Birkin 35 in black Togo with gold hardware — one of the most resolved combinations the house has ever produced, and one that has never softened in its authority. This example has not been carried. G stamp, unworn condition. The 35 is the size that established the Birkin as a working proposition rather than a bijou one. It opens wide, holds a day's worth without apology, and sits with equal conviction beside a boardroom table or in the overhead locker of a long-haul flight. It is the format that most people picture when they picture the model at all, and for good reason: the proportions are exactly right for the frame. Black in Togo is not a simple story. The leather — raised grain, supple but with clear structure — absorbs black dye in a way that gives it depth without flatness. In low light it reads as a pure, dense noir; in strong daylight, the grain catches and releases the light in small movements, so the surface lives rather than sits still. It is one of the few colour-and-leather pairings that requires nothing around it to look deliberate. The gold hardware presses a warm note against the cool ground of the leather — a considered contrast that keeps the bag from reading as severe.
