Blue Hermès Bags · London

Blue is the deepest bench in the Hermès palette — from the near-black authority of Bleu Nuit through Bleu Indigo and Deep Blue to the holiday brightness of Bleu Zellige and Céleste. It is the house\u2019s favourite territory for seasonal releases, which means individual shades come and go quickly and finding the blue is half the collector\u2019s work. JULL authenticates and hand-inspects every blue piece in our London workroom. Explore what is currently on the floor below, or give our concierge the shade name and let us do the finding.

Blue is the largest colour family Hermès produces and the one where the names do the most work. Bleu Nuit is nearly navy. Bleu Zellige is a warm mid-blue. Blue Jean is the soft, faded denim shade that defined the 2000s. Bleu Saphir is deep and jewel-like, Bleu Electric is exactly what it sounds like, and Bleu Brume, Bleu Zephyr and Bleu Pâle occupy the pale end. Writing simply blue tells a buyer almost nothing.

The dark blues function as neutrals and are bought that way. Bleu Nuit does everything Noir does — hides city wear, works in every season, sells reliably — while reading as a choice rather than a default. Among clients buying a second bag after a black one, it is the single most common answer.

The mid and bright blues behave differently. Bleu Electric and Bleu Saphir are statement colours, and like all statements they are size-sensitive: extraordinary on a Constance or a Mini Kelly, considerably braver on a Birkin 35. They also photograph poorly, tending to flatten or shift on screen, which is why we would rather show a client a bag in daylight than argue with an image.

Leather has an unusual effect on blues specifically. In Swift the depth is remarkable and the darker shades approach ink. In Epsom the same colour lifts and cools, becoming brighter and more graphic. In Togo the grain softens and greys it very slightly. In Box a navy becomes almost black in shadow and unmistakably blue in light, which is a large part of why vintage Box navy pieces are so admired.

Hardware follows the shade rather than the family. Palladium against a dark blue is the crisp, modern reading and by far the most requested. Gold against Bleu Nuit or Bleu Saphir produces something older and more formal that suits a Sellier Kelly particularly well. On the pale blues, palladium is almost always the better answer.

Practicality tracks depth in the obvious way. The dark blues are as forgiving as black. The pale ones — Bleu Brume, Bleu Pâle, Blue Jean — carry the same transfer risk as any light colour, particularly against dark denim, and show handle darkening sooner. Epsom mitigates it; Swift does not.

On availability, blue is the family where seasonal production matters most. New shades appear constantly and older ones are withdrawn, so a specific blue can be genuinely unrepeatable while another that looks similar is still in production. This is where getting the exact colour name right matters commercially, and we confirm it against the piece rather than the listing.

Every blue piece at JULL is inspected in daylight-balanced light in our London workroom, because blues shift more than any other family under artificial light, and we name the exact Hermès shade. Pieces are new, unworn and pre-owned, sourced through European boutiques below boutique retail where the market allows. Shown by appointment in London, filmed in detail for clients elsewhere, delivered insured across the UK.

Questions, answered

How many blues does Hermès make?

More than any other colour family, and the names carry the meaning: Bleu Nuit is nearly navy, Bleu Zellige a warm mid-blue, Blue Jean the faded denim shade, Bleu Saphir deep and jewel-like, Bleu Electric exactly that, with Bleu Brume and Bleu Zephyr at the pale end.

Which blue works as a neutral?

Bleu Nuit. It does everything Noir does — hides city wear, works in every season, sells reliably — while reading as a choice rather than a default. It is the most common second bag after a black one.

Do blue bags photograph accurately?

Often not. Blues shift and flatten more than any other family under artificial light, which is why we photograph in daylight-balanced light and would rather show a client the bag in daylight than argue with an image.

Which leather is best for blue?

Swift for depth, where dark shades approach ink. Epsom lifts and cools the same colour into something brighter and more graphic. Togo softens and slightly greys it. In Box a navy reads almost black in shadow and unmistakably blue in light.

Are pale blues practical?

They carry the same risks as any light colour — transfer from dark denim and darkening at the handles. Epsom mitigates it considerably; Swift does not. The dark blues are as forgiving as black.

Why do some blues cost more than others?

Because many are seasonal. A shade produced for one period and then withdrawn can be genuinely unrepeatable, while a similar-looking blue remains in production. Getting the exact colour name right matters commercially, and we confirm it against the piece.
