Hermès Blue Box Collection · London

Since 2021, Hermès has reserved a navy-lined box for its rarest releases — runway pieces and limited editions produced in numbers rumoured to be under a thousand a year, offered to clients by invitation only. This is that tier: every piece below comes with its Blue Box, photographed and included, authenticated by hand in our London workroom. Few floors anywhere hold more than one or two at a time.

What the Blue Box means — and how to verify one — is explained in our guide to the Hermès Blue Box.

The blue box is a recent invention and a deliberate one. For most of its history Hermès packed everything in the same orange, and the box told you nothing about what was inside it. Since 2021 a navy-lined box has been reserved for the pieces at the top of the house's output — runway looks, limited editions and the specifications that never reach a shop floor — and it is offered to clients rather than sold to them.

What that means in practice is that the box is evidence. Not proof of authenticity, which is a separate question decided by the bag itself, but evidence of tier: a piece that left the boutique in navy was placed with someone by invitation, in production numbers the house does not publish and which are widely understood to be very small. When a bag of this kind reaches the secondary market without its box, a genuine part of its provenance has gone missing.

That is why every piece on this page is listed with its box and photographed with it. Not as decoration — as documentation. If a Blue Box piece is offered anywhere without the box present in the photographs, the correct question is where the box went, and it is worth asking before the price is discussed.

The pieces themselves tend to share certain characteristics. They are frequently exotic — alligator, Niloticus and Porosus crocodile, ostrich — or in colours that appeared for a single season and never returned, or in combinations of leather and hardware that were made once. Some are runway pieces that existed in a handful of examples. What they have in common is that they cannot be ordered, cannot be waited for and will not appear again in the same form.

This changes how the buying decision works. With a Birkin 25 in Togo you are choosing a specification and then finding it; here you are looking at a finite set of objects and deciding whether one of them is the one. There is no equivalent piece a month later. That is uncomfortable for anyone used to comparison shopping and it is simply the nature of the tier.

It also changes what due diligence means. At this level the value sits in details that are easy to state and hard to verify: which season, which runway, how many were made, whether the leather is what it is described as. We inspect every piece by hand before it is listed — stamp, hardware, plating, stitching, the skin itself on exotics — and we say what we can confirm and what we cannot. Where a claim about rarity comes from the seller rather than from us, we attribute it.

Condition is judged differently at this level too. On a piece produced in a handful of examples there is no comparable bag to measure against, so what matters is the record: how it was stored, whether the box and its contents are complete, whether the hardware still carries its protective film. We state all of it, and where something is missing we say so rather than leaving it out of the photographs.

Few floors anywhere hold more than one or two Blue Box pieces at a time, and this page reflects exactly what is in our London workroom today. Everything is shown by appointment, filmed in close detail for clients who cannot visit, and delivered insured. If you are looking for something at this level that is not below, tell our concierge what it is; we will say honestly whether it is findable and roughly on what timescale, rather than promising to look.

Questions, answered

What is the Hermès Blue Box?

Since 2021 Hermès has used a navy-lined box for its highest tier — runway pieces, limited editions and specifications that never reach a shop floor. These are offered to clients by invitation rather than sold on request, in numbers the house does not publish.

Does the blue box prove a bag is authentic?

No. Authenticity is decided by the bag itself — stamp, hardware, stitching, leather — and we assess that by hand on every piece. What the box evidences is tier and provenance: that the piece left the boutique as a Blue Box release. Both questions matter, and they are separate.

Should I be concerned if a Blue Box piece has no box?

It is worth asking about. The box is part of the provenance of these pieces and its absence removes something real. It does not make a bag inauthentic, but it does change what you are buying, and any seller should be able to explain where the box went.

What kinds of pieces come in the Blue Box?

Frequently exotics — alligator, Niloticus and Porosus crocodile, ostrich — or single-season colours, or leather and hardware combinations made once. Some are runway pieces produced in a handful of examples. The common thread is that they cannot be ordered or waited for.

Can I request a specific Blue Box piece?

You can tell us what you are looking for and we will say honestly whether it is findable and on what timescale. What we will not do is promise to source something at this tier on demand — these pieces surface when they surface.

How should I judge condition on a piece this rare?

There is rarely a comparable bag to measure against, so the record matters more than a grade: how it was stored, whether the box and its contents are complete, whether the protective film is still on the hardware. We state all of that plainly, including what is missing.
