Vert Loden Negonda with palladium hardware — this Garden Party arrives in unworn condition, carrying none of the marks that even careful use leaves behind. G stamp, unworn condition. Few bags in the Hermès canon are as straightforwardly purposeful as this one. The Garden Party was conceived as an open-top tote: a bag that holds a great deal without ceremony, that moves between a morning at a desk and an afternoon elsewhere without requiring a change of bag. It draws no attention to its own construction and is better for it. The people who reach for it tend to know exactly what they want from a bag and have no interest in performing the decision. Vert Loden is a deep, cool green — the colour of heavyweight wool suiting, of northern European forests in winter rather than the brighter, warmer greens that come and go in a single season. On Negonda, which is a fine, supple calfskin with a gently matte surface, the tone reads as particularly clean and self-possessed. It neither pulls towards khaki nor towards teal. The leather absorbs the colour evenly and gives it a quiet depth that holds across different lights. The palladium hardware keeps the same cool register as the leather, silver in tone without brightness. This piece was inspected by hand in our London workroom and verified with Entrupy; it is held in our care and available to view by appointment at our Chelsea Harbour showroom.
