The Kelly In & Out is the maison’s wittiest self-portrait — a limited-series Kelly that turns itself inside out, with the contents of a collector’s bag drawn across its exterior in delicate sketch-work: a Chaîne d’Ancre bracelet, a lipstick, a set of keys with their clochette, even a miniature crocodile pochette, all illustrated as if spilling across the leather. Conceived for the house’s conceptual La Fabrique de la Légèreté moment, it was produced as a capsule and never rejoined the permanent collection — the Kelly as an object of play rather than protocol. The canvas for this artwork is Nata, the maison’s milk-white neutral, rendered in Swift calfskin whose smooth, fine grain takes the printed illustrations with the crispness of pen on paper, framed by palladium hardware that keeps the palette cool and lets the drawings speak. Novelty Kellys of this order are collector’s events: thin production, allocation in practice reserved for the house’s closest clients, and a secondary market that has treated every appearance as an occasion — illustrated capsules in particular have become some of the most searched-for Kellys of recent years. At 25 centimetres it remains entirely wearable — top-handle by day, crossbody by evening — though many owners treat it as sculpture between outings.
