Presented in Écorce Togo with palladium hardware, this Kelly Dépêches arrives unworn, carrying a W year stamp and its original receipt. The Dépêches line answers a question Hermès first posed in the 1920s: how should a house built on saddlery dress the working day? The result reads as the Kelly laid flat — the same trapezoidal geometry, the same straps crossing the front, the same turn-lock closure, all resolved into a slim document format that slips beneath the arm or beside a laptop without ceremony. Nothing about it announces itself, which is precisely the point. Écorce takes its name from tree bark, and the colour behaves accordingly: a deep, temperate brown warmed by a faint green undertone that shifts with the light. Against Togo's raised, irregular grain the shade gains texture and depth, reading almost espresso in shadow and closer to walnut in daylight. Togo itself, a soft and resilient calfskin introduced in 1997, resists the scuffs of daily transit while retaining its supple hand, which makes it an unusually practical partner for a bag intended to be carried every day. Palladium hardware supplies the cool counterweight. The white metal keeps the palette disciplined where gold would sweeten it, and the polished turn-lock sits as the single point of shine on an otherwise matte, quietly worked surface.
