The Kelly Watch is the Kelly bag reduced to its one unmistakable part. In 1975 Hermès took the turnkey padlock that closes the bag — the cadenas, with its plate and its swing-up shackle — and made it the watch case, hung from the strap the way the lock hangs from the sangles. Nothing else the house makes is recognised so quickly from across a room, and nothing else sits on the wrist quite like it: the case swings a little as you move, which is the point. This is the Mini, 16 mm, reference W408486WW00, and it is the diamond-set version on a steel bracelet. Twenty-four brilliant-cut diamonds (0.151 ct) frame the padlock case, a single diamond sits on the spangled white-lacquered dial, and the steel plate on the bracelet carries four more (0.032 ct). Swiss-made quartz movement, hours and minutes, anti-glare sapphire crystal, water-resistant to 3 bar. The single-tour steel bracelet is delivered at the 160 mm wrist size and can be adjusted; being steel rather than leather, it will outlast any strap. The padlock detaches and comes with its black Barenia calfskin lanyard, so the watch can be worn as a pendant as well as on the wrist. Store fresh from the boutique, 2026, never worn. Complete: wooden presentation box, lanyard, papers and the orange box. At Hermès this reference is £5,400; here it is £3,780, sourced below boutique retail, and available now rather than on a list. The Kelly Watch is not a quota piece, but the diamond-set steel Mini is allocated in small numbers and the London boutiques are usually between deliveries.
