The Hermès Mini Kelly is the most allocated bag in the house's current collection: a twenty-centimetre Kelly with a removable shoulder strap, the full Sellier construction scaled down to a size that works from morning to evening. Among all its colours, Etoupe is the one collectors return to most often, and for good reason. Etoupe, French for the grey-brown of a mole's coat, sits precisely between taupe and stone. It is the house's quintessential neutral: warm enough to wear with camel and cognac, cool enough for grey and black, and quiet enough to sit alongside any other bag in a collection. Few Hermès colours have held their place in the palette for so long, and few hold their value as consistently. The leather is Epsom, Hermès' embossed calfskin, which keeps the sharp lines of the Kelly's flap and gussets and stands up to everyday use with remarkable resilience. It is light, scratch-resistant and easy to care for, the practical choice for a bag that will be carried often. The hardware is palladium-plated: turn-lock, clochette and strap fittings in a cool silver that keeps Etoupe crisp and contemporary rather than earthy.
