What is my Hermès bag worth? The honest answer is that it depends on your exact bag: model and size first, then leather, colour and hardware, then the year on the blind stamp, the condition and what comes with it. Send us those details and a few photographs on WhatsApp and we will give you two figures for that bag within two working days, one for consignment and one for an outright sale, with no obligation attached to either.
What decides the figure
Model and size. A Birkin 25, a Kelly 25 and a Mini Kelly are the most wanted bags in the house, and they are worth the most against their boutique price. A Birkin 35 or a Kelly 32 is worth less than the smaller sizes today, even though it cost more at the boutique.
Leather. Togo and Epsom are the steady leathers. Swift, Chèvre and limited editions can be worth more. Exotics are valued piece by piece.
Colour and hardware. Black, Gold and Etoupe always find a buyer. A seasonal colour is worth what the market wants that season. Gold and palladium hardware are within a few hundred pounds of each other.
Stamp and condition. A recent stamp in unworn condition is at the top. Wear on the corners, handles and inside lowers the figure; a professional clean before selling rarely repays its cost. What each grade means is in Hermès condition grades explained.
The full set. Box, dust bag, raincoat, lock, keys, clochette and the receipt are not required, but they lift the figure.
Two ways to sell, two figures
| Consignment | Outright sale | |
|---|---|---|
| Figure | Higher, fixed in pounds before listing | Lower |
| When you are paid | Within seven working days of the sale | Usually the same day, once checked in person |
| How long | Up to 60 days on our floor | Immediately |
| Risk while with us | Ours, up to the agreed payout | Ours, once bought |
On consignment, you receive the sum we agree, whatever the bag sells for, and we do not sell below it without your written consent. If it has not sold after 60 days you can collect it, or we return it by insured courier, at no cost. Outright, we buy the bag with our own money, which is why that figure is lower, and pay by bank transfer to a UK account in your name. The full terms are on our selling page.
A guide to what bags sell for
The asking prices on our own floor are the best public guide to what a bag like yours sells for today, and they are the ceiling for any offer, ours or anyone's. The live numbers are in the Birkin 25 price guide, the Mini Kelly price guide and the Kelly To Go price guide. A consignment payout sits below the asking price by our margin; an outright price sits a little lower again.
How to get your figures
Send the model, size, colour, leather, hardware and blind stamp, with a few daylight photographs of the front, base, corners and stamp, to WhatsApp +44 7704 870249. You can bring the bag to our Chelsea Harbour showroom by appointment, seven days a week, or we collect it by insured courier anywhere in the UK. Every bag is checked by hand before any agreement is signed. If you are weighing auction or a marketplace as well, how to sell a Hermès bag in the UK compares every route.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much can I sell my Birkin for?
It depends on the size, leather, colour, stamp and condition. Send us the details and photographs and we will give you a consignment figure and an outright figure for your exact bag within two working days.
Do I need the receipt and box to sell a Hermès bag?
No. Every bag is checked in person, so the receipt and box are not required, but a full set lifts the figure.
Is consignment or an outright sale better?
Consignment gives a higher figure, paid after the bag sells. An outright sale gives a lower figure, usually paid the same day.
How quickly will I be paid?
Outright, usually the same day the bag is checked in London. On consignment, within seven working days of the sale.
Do you buy worn bags?
Yes. Worn bags are welcome; condition is reflected in the figure.
