First, the Only Rule Worth Knowing
Bags are allocated. Everything else is not. Birkins and Kellys are offered by boutiques to established clients at their discretion (how that works) — you cannot walk in and buy one for Christmas. But silks, jewellery, belts, sandals, homeware, perfume, small leather goods: all of it is ordinary retail, available to anyone, and all of it arrives in the same orange box with the same brown ribbon.

Under £300 — The Entry
The band where most British Christmas budgets live, and where Hermès is surprisingly generous.

Pocket square or gavroche — the 45cm silk. For men who wear tailoring, and for women who tie them at the neck.
Perfume — Terre d'Hermès for him, Twilly d'Hermès or Un Jardin for her. The safest gift in the house and the only one nobody re-gifts.
Homeware — a mug, a small tray, a notebook or agenda. Absurdly good value for the box it arrives in, and the correct answer for a boss, a host or in-laws you do not know well.
£300 – £800 — The Sweet Spot
Bracelets. The Clic H in enamel and the Kelly Dog in leather — the two pieces most likely to be worn every single day for a decade. Choose by wrist size and by whether they wear gold or silver already.
Silk carré, 90cm. The classic square. A design chosen with any thought at all — an equestrian print for a rider, a botanical for a gardener — turns a scarf into a story.
Oran sandals. The H-cut slide, the most-worn Hermès object on earth. Sizing runs snug; if you are unsure, the adjustable Chypre forgives. Our current pairs sit at £450–£600 unworn.

Belts. The Constance buckle with a reversible strap — the most-worn men's Hermès piece after the perfume, and one of the few gifts a man will actually replace when it wears out.
Fine jewellery in silver. Chaîne d'Ancre bracelets and necklaces: the house's most recognisable motif, and — unlike a bag — available.

Two practical notes at this level. First, buy the spec they would choose, not the one available — if you do not know it, ask us and we will source it. The Practical Part

Personalisation. Hermès offers hot-stamping on some leather goods, and it is beautiful — but it must be arranged in advance and it makes the gift non-returnable. Decide early or not at all.
