In 1956 a single photograph — Grace Kelly, a bag, a hidden pregnancy — turned the Sac à dépêches into the Kelly and fixed it permanently in the vocabulary of elegance. Seventy years on, the silhouette needs no reinvention; only the right colour. This example supplies it. Gris Pale may be the most architectural neutral the house currently offers: a pale, misted dove-grey with a mineral coolness, closer to morning fog over Paris zinc rooftops than to anything as simple as silver. Cut in Epsom, whose fine embossed grain holds the Kelly's edges razor-straight, the colour takes on a porcelain smoothness. Palladium hardware continues the cool register without interruption — grey on grey on white metal, a quiet study in tone rather than contrast. The 28 is the collector's consensus size: structured enough for the boardroom, graceful at dinner, generous enough for life in between.
