The Hermès Kelly Doll in Orange and Ébène Gulliver leather is one of the most playful and most rare conceptual Kellys ever produced. Square D stamp (approximately 2019), very good preloved condition. The Kelly Doll — originally a one-off creation from atelier designer Pierre Hardy — reimagines the Kelly silhouette as a tiny anthropomorphic figure: the body of the Kelly becomes the doll's body, the strap-loops become her arms, and the turn-lock becomes her face. The two-tone Orange and Ébène colourblock plays into the conceit: bright orange for one side, deep dark-brown Ébène for the other, creating the visual sense of clothing on the doll figure. Gulliver leather — a soft, vegetable-tanned smooth calfskin from the 1960s and 1970s Hermès repertoire, briefly revived for special editions — carries colour with extraordinary depth and softness. Both Orange and Ébène show particularly richly in Gulliver. The leather has a low-key sheen rather than a glassy gloss. Kelly Doll production is measured in single-digit annual numbers; the model regularly sells above retail at Christie's and Sotheby's evening sales. For a serious Hermès collector, it is a rare opportunity to acquire one of the most conceptually adventurous pieces the maison has produced.
