Gabrielle Chanel built the house on borrowed clothes. She took jersey from men's underwear, the sailor's striped top from the Normandy coast, the tweed from a Scottish mill that made shooting jackets — and each time the trick was the same: take a garment made for work, keep its construction honest, and cut it for a woman who was not going to work in it. This pair of jeans is that idea applied to American workwear, from the pre-collection for Autumn/Winter 2026. It is built as a carpenter's trouser rather than a five-pocket jean. The denim is a dark, dry indigo with no fading or whiskering, and every seam is run in the tan-gold topstitching that workwear uses to show its structure: the yoke, the curved front pockets, the inseams, the waistband. There is a utility loop at the side seam, a deep patch pocket below it, and the back carries a large square flap-style pocket with the interlocking CC drawn into it in the same tan thread, outlined rather than embroidered solid — the logo is a line drawing made out of stitching, which is the most restrained way the house has ever put its monogram on a garment. The hardware follows: a CC-cut zip pull at the fly, and a small plaque stamped CHANEL at the back of the waistband in place of the usual leather patch. The cut sits high at the waist and runs straight and full through the leg, the shape that makes a rigid denim hang rather than cling. Size 34 (French), store fresh with the tags attached. Rigid denim of this kind softens and moulds to the wearer over the first several wears and should be washed rarely and cold to hold the colour.
