Hermès does not really make a plain T-shirt. What it makes is a piece of jersey cut to the same tolerances as its shirting, and then given one detail that carries the whole thing — here, an embroidered patch pocket at the left chest. The tag calls it t-shirt droit, poche brodée: a straight cut, an embroidered pocket. The body is plain cotton jersey, 100% cotton, made in France, with a ribbed crew neck, set-in short sleeves and a clean twin-needle hem. The cut is straight rather than fitted through the waist, which is what lets it sit over a trouser or under a jacket without pulling. Hermès lists this shape as running true to size; this one is a 34. The pocket is the piece. It is a square patch at the left chest worked entirely in the house's Mosaïque embroidery — a dense, raised, tile-like ground with a circular medallion set into it and the H enclosed at the centre. All of it is in the same colour as the shirt, so it reads as texture rather than as a logo: you see the change of surface from across a room and only resolve the H when you are close. It is the same instinct behind a pochette façonnée or a self-coloured jacquard — the house putting its mark on a garment without putting it on display. The colour is Bleu Noir, the blue-black Hermès uses where another house would simply use black. In daylight it reads navy; under a lamp it goes almost black. Practically, it is easier to wear with navy, denim and brown than a true black is, and it does not fight a black jacket either. Store fresh and unworn, with the Hermès tag still attached. Sourced below the boutique price. Available to view at our Chelsea Harbour showroom or delivered insured anywhere in the UK. Ask us for measurements or a short video before you decide.
