Nearly a century after the maison first mixed it for saddle leather, Rouge H remains the red against which every other is measured — deep, wine-dark, shaded with brown and aubergine, the colour of libraries and old claret rather than lipstick. Most collectors meet it on the 25; finding it on the Birkin 30 is rarer and, for many, better. The larger canvas lets the colour breathe: across thirty centimetres of pebbled Togo the shade shifts from garnet in shadow to warm mahogany in daylight, an effect the smaller sizes can only hint at.
