The Hermès Bolide 31 is one of the most quietly luxurious soft-structure travel bags in the maison's catalogue. Square D stamp, preloved condition. The Bolide — introduced in 1923 by Émile Hermès as the world's first handbag with a zip closure — is one of the most historically significant pieces in the Hermès archive. The 31cm proportion is the most classical Bolide size: large enough to function as a working bag, slim enough to read as elegantly proportioned rather than utilitarian. The signature rounded silhouette descends from automobile coachwork of the early twentieth century — 'bolide' meaning racing car or comet — reflecting the maison's then-modernist embrace of the motor age. The Bolide carries a particular kind of insider authority: it is a piece for collectors who already own the canonical Birkin and Kelly and now seek pieces with deeper archival roots. It develops beautifully with carry, the soft structure relaxing into a quietly perfect form. Sourced through JULL's direct global trade network. Original box, dust bag and brand ribbon. Hand-inspected London workroom; private viewing by appointment in our Knightsbridge showroom.
