Constance 18 in Mauve Sylvestre Epsom with palladium hardware — a compact, single-flap shoulder bag that asks very little of its owner and returns considerably more. Year K stamp, brand new condition. Introduced in 1969 and named for Émile-Maurice Hermès's daughter, the Constance occupies a precise place in the house's vocabulary: structured enough for a formal dinner, slim enough for a working day. The 18 cm format is the smallest in the family and the most resolved — carried on the shoulder or across the body, it holds a telephone, a card holder and a key, and encourages the kind of edit that tends to make an outfit rather than interrupt it. It is the choice of someone who already knows what they need. Mauve Sylvestre is a grey-lilac, closer to dried lavender than to anything overtly purple, with enough grey in its base to keep it anchored in the cool, neutral range. On Epsom — a fine, cross-hatched calfskin that holds its structure and resists surface marks — the colour reads with particular clarity, the tight grain preventing the kind of depth variation that a smoother leather would introduce. The result is even, matte and quietly distinctive. The palladium hardware, bright and white-toned, sits cleanly against the pale ground without competing with it.
