The Hermès Haut à Courroies in So Black Shadow Evergrain with gold hardware is among the most distinctive pieces in the maison's heritage travel-bag canon. Year K (2026) production stamp, store-fresh condition. The Haut à Courroies — 'high-strap' — is the original Hermès grand travel bag from which the Birkin was famously descended in 1984. While the Birkin reduced the silhouette for everyday use, the original Haut à Courroies retains its tall, equestrian-travel proportions and double-strap closure. It is a piece that reads as a piece of heritage saddlery rather than as a fashion handbag, and Hermès has continued to produce it in limited annual runs. The So Black variation — introduced in collaboration with Jean Paul Gaultier in 2010 — is one of the maison's most uncompromising visual statements: black leather body, black turn-lock, black hardware, black stitching. In the Shadow execution on Evergrain leather, the surface adopts a particularly deep, matte-graphite quality. Evergrain itself is a heavy-grained calfskin with a distinctive scarred-bark surface character that reads as architectural rather than refined.
