A Kelly Cut in Graphite matt Porosus crocodile with Permabrass hardware is one of the more singular things Hermès makes — a clutch that carries the house's most storied name yet operates entirely on its own terms. G stamp, brand new condition. Where the Kelly bag is structured around a handle and a body built for carrying, the Kelly Cut strips that architecture back to its essentials: a clean envelope designed to be held in the hand or tucked under the arm. It belongs to the evening and to certain kinds of formal day, the moments when a larger bag would be too much. Hermès first introduced the silhouette in the 2000s and it has remained a quiet constant in the exotic-skin programme, produced in small numbers and almost never seen in new condition outside the boutique. Graphite on matt Porosus is a serious combination. The colour sits in the territory between slate and charcoal, cool-toned without being cold, deep enough to read as near-black in low light and to reveal the tile pattern of the crocodile clearly in stronger light. Matt Porosus — Porosus being the saltwater crocodile, the most finely scaled and consistently patterned of the skins Hermès works with — gives the surface a dry, almost stone-like quality that makes the colour feel particularly concentrated.
