Hermès produced this Kelly Cut in Orange H Epsom with gold hardware — a combination that leaves very little room for ambiguity about what the bag is and what it intends. Square R stamp, unworn condition. The Kelly Cut occupies an unusual position within the house: it shares its name and its closure silhouette with one of Hermès's most recognised shapes, but it abandons the handle entirely in favour of a strict clutch format. The result is a piece designed for a particular kind of occasion — one where the bag is carried in the hand or under the arm and the rest of the outfit does the rest of the work. It is the choice of someone who wants the legibility of Kelly iconography without the formality of a structured handbag. Orange H is the house's signature shade, distinct from the broader family of oranges by its depth and warmth — a tone closer to lacquered persimmon than to anything citrus. On Epsom, which is a fine-grained, lightly textured leather with a firm hand and a low sheen, the colour appears especially saturated and consistent.
