Mauve Sylvestre arrived quietly and has been chased ever since. It sits in that narrow band of the Hermès colour chart where a shade is soft enough to be worn every day yet distinctive enough that it is recognised across a room: a muted, dusty mauve with grey beneath it, warmer in lamplight, cooler under a London sky. On the Mini Kelly it is close to definitive. The bag is worked in Epsom, the embossed calfskin that gives the sellier construction its discipline. Where softer hides relax over time, Epsom keeps the corners sharp and the flap true, so the silhouette you see today is the silhouette you will still have in a decade. It is also famously forgiving in wear, shrugging off light rain and resisting the small scuffs that a bag of this size inevitably meets in daily use. Palladium hardware completes it. The white metal draws out the grey in the leather and keeps the whole piece restrained rather than decorative, and the turnkey, clochette, cadenas and both keys are present and unmarked. The blind stamp reads G, placing this among the most recent production. Twenty centimetres is deceptive. The Mini Kelly takes a phone, cardholder, keys and a lipstick without complaint, and the detachable strap allows it to be carried in the hand across a lunch and worn cross-body on the walk home. It has become the single most requested silhouette in the house, and in Mauve Sylvestre with palladium it is among the most difficult specifications to source anywhere.
