Piqûres sellier is the saddle stitch — two needles working from both sides of the same hole, the stitch Hermès was founded on in 1837 and still the one used on a Birkin handle. It is a saddler's solution to a saddler's problem: if a single thread breaks, the seam does not run. On a cotton T-shirt it has no structural job at all, which is exactly why the house uses it here. It is the signature reduced to a line of stitching. The shirt is short-sleeve crewneck in cotton piqué — 100% cotton, made in Italy, with the fine waffled surface that gives a tee the body to hold its shape rather than cling. The collar is finished with a double hem and a contrasting saddle stitch in navy against the blue, which is the detail you register first, and the patch pocket at the left chest is outlined in the same stitch with a small tonal H embroidered at its top corner. Nothing else is applied anywhere — no print, no plaque, no logo across the chest. Hermès lists the cut as running true to size, with a body length of 70 cm on a M. The colour is Atlantique, a mid blue with grey in it rather than a bright or a navy — the shade that sits between a chambray shirt and a denim jacket. It works against white, stone, navy and brown, and it is the version of a blue tee that reads as deliberate rather than as a basic. Piqué of this weight is the reason to buy a T-shirt at this level: it survives washing without going limp at the collar, and the saddle-stitched neck is the part of a tee that usually fails first.
