Blue Zephyr is one of the more elusive blues Hermès has released in recent seasons: a clear, cool, almost aeronautical shade that avoids the depth of Bleu Nuit and the brightness of Bleu Electrique, landing instead somewhere calm and unusually versatile. On a Mini Kelly, against gold hardware, it reads as both modern and entirely classical. The bag is built in Epsom, the fine embossed calfskin that gives the sellier Kelly its architecture. Epsom is the leather collectors reach for when they want the silhouette to stay exact: corners square, sangles flat, flap closing cleanly year after year. It is also the most robust of the house leathers in daily wear, light in the hand, resistant to scratching and untroubled by weather, which suits a bag designed to be used rather than admired from a shelf. Gold hardware warms the blue considerably. The contrast between the cool leather and the yellow-toned metal is the reason this particular pairing is requested so often and found so rarely. Turnkey, clochette, cadenas and both keys are present and unmarked, and the blind stamp reads A. At twenty centimetres the Mini Kelly remains the most practical of the small formats, taking a phone, cardholder, keys and a lipstick with room to spare, and the detachable shoulder strap allows it to be worn cross-body or carried by the handle as the occasion asks. It is the silhouette that has defined the last decade of Hermès collecting and shows no sign of easing.
