This Mini Kelly II pairs Gris Asphalte with Rose Extrême — the coolest grey in the Hermès palette against its most uncompromising pink. It is a combination the house issues sparingly, and it works because neither colour concedes: asphalt grey holds the body while the pink runs the front strap and the underside of the flap, so the bag changes character depending on whether it is closed, open, or carried on the shoulder. Epsom is the right leather for a commission of this kind. Its fine embossed grain takes a clean edge, keeps the Sellier corners sharp, and holds colour with more precision than Togo, which is why Hermès reaches for it whenever two tones must meet at a seam without bleeding into one another. The stitching is contrast-matched to the pink and the piping is cut so the two colours change over exactly at the corner. Gold hardware is the warming element. Against grey and pink it gives the bag a jewellery quality — turn-lock, sangles, clochette and cadenas all unmarked, the plate free of the fine scratching that shows on a bag which has been opened and closed in daily use. At 20 cm the Mini Kelly II carries a phone, a card case, a lipstick and keys, and Hermès has made it the hardest bag in the range to obtain in a special colourway. This one arrives with its shoulder strap, worn cross-body or shortened on the arm. Stamped Z, store fresh and never carried. Original box, dust bag, clochette, cadenas, two keys and receipt included.
