Gris Mouette is one of the quietest and most sought-after neutrals Hermès has produced: a cool, soft dove grey, named for the seagull, that sits between Gris Perle and Étain and flatters almost every palette. Here it dresses a Mini Kelly II in Epsom leather with gold hardware, blind stamp C, in store fresh condition. The Mini Kelly II is the smallest Kelly in regular production and the one that has become a modern icon in its own right. At roughly twenty centimetres it holds a phone, a compact wallet, keys and lipstick, and it is worn three ways: by the top handle, on the removable shoulder strap, or tucked under the arm as a clutch. The proportions are exact, the presence far larger than the size suggests. Epsom is the ideal leather for this colour. Its fine embossed grain is light, rigid and remarkably resistant to marks, so the Mini Kelly holds its crisp sellier edges year after year and the pale grey stays clean. Gold hardware on Gris Mouette is the warmer of the two pairings, lifting the grey towards a soft champagne tone and making the bag as comfortable with evening wear as with denim. Blind stamp C corresponds to 2018. The bag presents as unworn and is supplied with its Hermès box, dust bag, ribbon and shoulder strap. Gris Mouette in the Mini Kelly has become extremely difficult to source, and examples in Epsom with gold hardware are rarer still.
