Two greys, one bird. Gris Tourterelle takes its name from the turtle dove, and Béton from poured concrete — warm and cool set against each other across a single Mini Kelly, with the tonal shift landing exactly where the light catches the quills. On ostrich, that pairing does something no calfskin can: the follicle pattern breaks the colour into thousands of tiny points, so the bag reads soft grey from across a room and reveals its full depth only in the hand. The Mini Kelly II measures twenty centimetres and is carried by hand or long on its adjustable strap. Hermès ostrich comes from farmed South African birds, hand selected for even quill distribution, and the Mini format demands the finest hides in the tannery — the panels are small, so every quill has to sit right. The leather is naturally supple, resists water far better than smooth calf, and develops a quiet sheen with wear rather than scuffing. Permabrass hardware is the detail that makes this configuration worth chasing. Warmer and more muted than gold, harder wearing than plated finishes, it is offered only intermittently and almost never on exotics in the Mini format. Against the two greys it reads as an antique gilt rather than a shine, and it will not fade. This example carries blind stamp B and arrives with its original receipt, box, dust bag, rain cover, clochette, padlock and keys, together with the CITES documentation required for international travel.
