Orange is Hermès' own colour, and wearing it on the outside of the bag rather than around it is the least subtle thing the house does — deliberately so. This is the box shade, the ribbon shade, the colour that has stood for Hermès since 1942, and on a Mini Kelly it is unmistakable at forty paces. At 20 cm the effect is closer to jewellery than to luggage. The Mini Kelly II carries almost nothing — a card holder, a phone, a lipstick, a key — which is precisely the point. It is worn crossbody through the day and carried by the top handle in the evening, and in a strong colour it does the work that a brooch used to do: it finishes an outfit that is otherwise deliberately plain. Epsom is the right leather for a saturated shade. The pressed grain is dense and non-porous, so the pigment sits bright and even across the flap rather than sinking unevenly into the hide. It also holds the Sellier corners crisp — critical at this scale, where any softening reads immediately as wear. Palladium hardware keeps the pairing modern; gold against Orange tips towards the 1980s, and this bag is not trying to be nostalgic. Stamped G and store fresh, never carried. The strap is unmarked at the rings, the lacquered edges are perfect, and the turn-lock still has factory resistance. Supplied with orange box, dust bag, clochette, keys, lock, raincoat and felt.
