Malachite in matte alligator is one of Hermès' most sophisticated colour-to-material pairings — a mineral, jewelled green softened by the granular finish of a non-lacquered skin. Where shiny alligator sings, matte whispers. The result is a bag that reads as a texture first and a colour second, and one that will pair with almost every neutral in the wardrobe without the visual weight of a shiny exotic. Alligator differs from crocodile in scale geometry — larger, more rectangular tiles, with tighter follicle marks along the centre-back seam. Matte finish means each tile has been buffed rather than lacquered, giving the skin a suede-like softness while retaining the structural integrity that keeps a Birkin's corners standing after decades of use. Palladium hardware — cool white metal rather than gold — reinforces the mineral character of Malachite. Stamped A and store fresh. The felt sleeves are still wrapping the sangles, the corners are perfectly held, the lacquered edges are unmarked, and the plaque behind the palladium closure is unscratched. Every hallmark of a bag that has left the atelier, travelled to a private client and returned untouched. At 30 cm it holds an A5 diary, a slim laptop, a wallet, keys and a small cosmetic pouch — the working size, in one of the most collectable exotic pairings of the year. A piece that sits equally well under a cream trench in autumn or a black overcoat in January. Original box, dust bag, felt sleeves, raincoat, clochette, cadenas, keys and CITES paperwork included. Available for private viewing by appointment at our Knightsbridge showroom.
