Vert Foncé is Hermès at its most discreet: a deep, forest-dark green that behaves almost like a neutral, sitting comfortably against navy, camel, grey and black without ever announcing itself. On shiny niloticus crocodile it becomes something far less quiet. The polished scales throw light back in fragments, so the colour reads bottle-green at the horn, near-black across the gussets, and something closer to moss where the sun lands directly. The Birkin 30 remains the most versatile proportion in the family — large enough for a diary, a tablet and the practical contents of a working day, compact enough to remain elegant on the arm. In exotic skin it becomes a piece that is rarely used casually and almost never parted with. Niloticus crocodile in a shiny finish is among the most demanding materials in the Hermès workshop: the skins must be selected for even scale progression, hand-polished with agate stone, and cut so that the symmetry of the belly runs true down the centre of the front panel.
