There is a certain kind of Hermès object that improves with every year of ownership, and the Dépêches in Gold Togo is its textbook case. Gold — the maison's honeyed saddle tan, older than any of its bags — carries the memory of the harness workshop on which the house was founded, and no colour develops a warmer patina in use. The Dépêches itself is the modern descendant of the house's diplomatic document case: a clean, flat pouch with no closure theatrics, only saddle stitching and proportion. Togo's grained surface makes the piece an everyday proposition, resisting marks and rain while the tan slowly deepens toward amber. It is leather to live with, not to guard. Palladium hardware is a quietly contemporary choice against so classic a colour, sharpening the piece for the present tense. The contrast stitching in pale thread — the oldest visual signature the house owns — runs the perimeter like a drawn line.
