Gold on the Depeches is the warmest register the model has been offered in — Hermès' honey-tan Togo, contrasted against cool palladium hardware. Where Black and Caban read as authority, Gold reads as considered warmth: a document holder for a client whose wardrobe leans camel, olive, cream and denim rather than office black. The pairing of a warm tan leather with cool palladium is a deliberate Hermès signature — the metal keeps the pale leather from reading as informal, while the leather warms the metal into something more soulful than pure white. On a working piece like the Depeches, this pairing produces a bag that photographs beautifully against a wool overcoat or a shearling jacket and holds its own in a boardroom without leaning too formal. Togo softens marginally over its first month, and Gold shows fingerprint marking in this early period until the leather stabilises.
