The piece in detail
Black Epsom with palladium hardware is the Kelly specification that clients return to after every detour. It is not the rarest combination Hermès makes, but it is the one that outlasts every trend, and in a Kelly 25 it is the configuration most consistently requested and least consistently available. Epsom is a pressed calf leather with a fine, embossed grain. It is lighter than Togo, considerably more water-resistant, and it holds a structured shape indefinitely — the reason Hermès favours it for sellier construction. A Kelly in Epsom stands unaided, keeps its corners crisp, and looks the same at the end of a long day as it did at the beginning. In black, the grain reads as texture rather than colour, catching light along the ridges and giving the bag depth that flat leathers cannot. The 25 has become the defining proportion of the modern Kelly. Small enough to be worn as jewellery, large enough for a phone, a cardholder and the essentials of a working day, it carries beautifully by the top handle and converts to a shoulder bag with the detachable strap. Few bags manage that range without compromise. Palladium hardware keeps the composition cool and architectural. Against black leather it produces the most graphic version of the Kelly: white metal, black grain, and the precise geometry of the turn-lock and sangles. On this example the plating is unmarked and the closure crisp. The piece carries blind stamp G and is offered in store fresh condition, complete with lock, keys, clochette and shoulder strap. Every bag at JULL is examined in person before listing. We are glad to arrange a private viewing in London, or to provide a full condition report and additional photography for clients purchasing at a distance, with fully insured worldwide shipping available.
