The piece in detail
Étoupe occupies a peculiar position in the Hermès palette: it is the colour clients ask for when they want a bag they will never have to think about again. Neither grey nor beige nor taupe but something quietly between all three, it shifts with the light and with whatever it is worn against — cooler alongside charcoal, warmer next to camel, and consistently flattering in photographs where stronger colours can overwhelm. On Epsom the tone is at its most precise. The pressed, fine-grained calf holds colour evenly across every panel, resists water and scuffing better than softer leathers, and gives the Kelly its cleanest architectural line. The bag stands upright without help, the flap closes with a definite sound, and the shape remains unchanged whether it is carrying a diary or almost nothing at all. The Kelly 25 is the proportion that has come to dominate demand. It is small enough to read as an accessory and structured enough to remain formal, and in a neutral like Étoupe it moves without effort from a working morning to dinner. Carried by the top handle it is composed; on the detachable shoulder strap it becomes genuinely practical. Palladium hardware keeps the whole composition cool and contemporary, its bright white metal reading crisply against the muted leather rather than warming it. On this example the plating is unmarked, the turn-lock crisp, and the sangles align precisely. The piece carries blind stamp G and is offered in store fresh condition, complete with lock, keys, clochette and shoulder strap. Every bag at JULL is inspected in person before it is listed. We are pleased to arrange a private viewing in London, or to supply a full condition report and further photography for clients buying at a distance, with fully insured worldwide shipping available.
