The piece in detail
Etoupe is the colour Hermès made for people who would rather not decide. A warm grey with a clear clay undertone, it reads taupe in daylight and closer to mushroom under a restaurant lamp, and it functions as a true neutral against black, navy, camel and white in a way that a cold grey never manages. It has been the most consistently requested Kelly colour for over a decade, and it is the one clients keep after they have sold everything else. Epsom is the leather that makes a Kelly look like a Kelly. The grain is pressed rather than raised, giving a firm, finely textured surface that holds the Sellier corners square and keeps the flap flat across the front panel. It does not slouch, it does not drink rain, and it stays structurally identical after a decade of real use — the reason Epsom Kellys hold their value better than the equivalent Togo in every size. At 25 cm the Kelly is at its most disciplined. It takes a phone, a card case, a compact and keys, and nothing beyond that, which is exactly what allows it to work as an evening bag that has already survived a working day. The single top handle and the detachable strap give it two registers, and neither one reads as a compromise. Palladium hardware throughout, stamped G, and store fresh — never carried. This is the second example of this specification we hold, offered separately from its sibling and identical to it in every respect. Supplied with box, dust bag, clochette, keys, lock, raincoat and felt. Priced at £22,200, with no buyer's premium and no consignment fee. Available for private viewing by appointment at JULL Chelsea Harbour, London.
