A Kelly 20 Clou de coeur in black chèvre with palladium hardware — one of the more quietly radical things Hermès has produced in recent years, and in brand-new condition. The Clou de coeur is the Kelly silhouette redrawn from the inside out. Where the classic Kelly is architecture, structured and ceremonial, this version collapses the turn-lock into a single heart-shaped stud and softens the whole proposition. At twenty centimetres it is already a compact bag; with the Clou de coeur's relaxed attitude it becomes something closer to a personal object — carried by those who know the house's history well enough to want a footnote to it. Black chèvre is one of the most unfussy combinations Hermès produces. Chèvre — goatskin — has a tight, pebbly grain that holds its surface integrity better than most, so black here reads as genuinely, consistently black: no bronze cast in warm light, no green pull in shade. The grain gives the colour a low-level texture that prevents it from ever looking flat. It is a piece that will look the same in ten years as it does today. The palladium hardware sits cool and pewter-grey against that surface, consistent with the bag's understated register.
