Some configurations exist at the very summit of what Hermès produces, and a Mini Kelly in shiny alligator is one of them. Vert Emeraude — deep, saturated emerald with the depth of the stone it is named for — is among the most coveted shades ever lacquered onto exotic skin, and under the lisse finish each scale carries a mirror gloss that shifts from jewel-green to near-black as the light moves. The Kelly 20 Mini II is already the most elusive bag in regular production; in exotic, it becomes something else entirely — produced in vanishingly small numbers, offered only to the house's most established clients, and almost never seen for sale. Gold hardware completes the equation, its warmth lifting the emerald the way a gold setting lifts a stone, from the sculpted touret to the tiny padlock on its clochette. Shiny alligator is among the most labour-intensive materials Hermès works with: skins are selected for perfect scale symmetry, agate-polished by hand until they achieve their glassine depth, and entrusted only to the ateliers' most senior artisans.
