The Shadow series — introduced in collaboration with Jean Paul Gaultier in 2010 — is one of Hermès's most uncompromising visual statements: every visible surface is rendered in black, including the typically contrasting hardware, stitching and lining. The Shadow Clutch applies this approach to an evening clutch silhouette, producing a piece that reads as pure architectural form. In black exotic skin (typically Mississippi alligator), the surface adopts particular depth: the scale pattern is visible only at close range, with the overall surface presenting as a single uniform black sculptural object. The Shadow execution treats the palladium hardware to read as deep matte-black, integrating it fully into the body of the piece.
