Hermès showed its men's Spring-Summer 2027 collection in Paris this summer, and the most interesting thing about it was whose name was not on it. Véronique Nichanian shaped Hermès menswear for thirty-seven years and took her final bow in January 2026; Grace Wales Bonner debuts in January 2027. The forty looks in between came from the in-house studio — no guest designer, no interim star. For a house that sells continuity, that was the point.
For those of us who sell the bags rather than review the clothes, the collection said something sharper: Hermès is doubling down on men's leather goods at exactly the moment the men's market caught fire. Here is what was shown, and what it will mean by the time any of it reaches a buyer.
The HAC, Rebuilt
The standout was the Haut à Courroies Pitcher in Barénia Faubourg and gold Barénia calfskin — the HAC reimagined through an enlarged, almost skeletal frame, its ribbed basket-like construction turning a travel bag into something closer to portable architecture. Alongside it, a cargo-style HAC in deep tobacco leather with the same ribbed treatment appeared on the runway feeds, and the classic HAC and R.M.S. toile-and-leather carryalls returned with proportions and straps rebuilt for men.
That is three separate HAC statements in one collection. Hermès does not do that by accident.
Also shown: unnamed travel bags in black Togo, a slouched drawstring duffle in washed canvas and leather, an oversized H Canvas bucket in stone and chocolate, and Fjord cowhide returning to the leather vocabulary after years in the background. The palette ran sand, stone, kraft and gravel into graphite, with occasional wisteria, blotter pink and basque red.
Why the HAC, and Why Now
The timing is not coincidence. As we documented in our HAC guide, the Haut à Courroies spent a decade as the unloved giant of the catalogue — offered without the prespend theatre, trading at a persistent discount to the Birkin, sourceable in days. Then came the World Cup summer, men started buying under their own names, and within weeks the discount that defined the bag for ten years had closed.
A house that watches its own sell-through as closely as Hermès does not need a focus group to read that. SS27 is the answer: more HAC, more variations, more reasons for the new male buyer to come back. What Actually Reaches Buyers — The Honest Timeline
This is where runway coverage usually stops and where our part starts.
Spring-Summer 2027 means deliveries beginning roughly a year from the show — the earliest pieces landing in boutiques in the first months of 2027, the rest through that summer. Runway constructions like the Pitcher are not guaranteed to reach commercial production at all; when they do, it is in tiny numbers, and they go the way every restricted piece goes: offered, never requested, to clients with history (how allocation actually works).
Which means the practical reality for anyone reading this in August 2026 is simple. If you want a HAC because the SS27 images made you want one, the bag you can actually own is on the secondary market — now, in the spec you choose, without waiting eighteen months to be told no. When they go, sourcing a large HAC now takes weeks rather than the days it took in May.
Three Predictions We Will Stand By
One: the HAC premium holds through 2027. A house signalling this much interest in a silhouette does not soften demand for it — it validates it. The bags already on the market are the supply for the next eighteen months.
Two: the ribbed and cargo constructions become collector pieces, not carry pieces. Anything that photographs like the Pitcher gets bought as an object. Expect Blue Box treatment for the rarest of them (what that signals) and secondary premiums to match.
Three: men's is no longer a footnote category. The 2025–26 shift we tracked all summer now has the house's own product roadmap behind it. Standard-spec men's pieces — Dépêches, HAC 40, Birkin 40 — are the entry point a whole new buyer group is walking through, and entry points do not stay cheap.
