Blue Zanzibar is Hermès' rich, mid-tone marine blue — deeper than Bleu Atoll, warmer than Bleu Nuit, and one of the most versatile blues in the Hermès palette. Named for the coastal city on the East African archipelago, it reads especially well against denim, cream and camel — the classic day-to-night wardrobe of a London client who travels regularly. This 30 cm Birkin is built in Retourne — the inside-stitched construction that gives the Birkin its softer, more relaxed silhouette (as opposed to the crisper Sellier construction of the Kelly). Epsom leather on a Retourne is unusual and worth noting: the fine embossed grain keeps the Birkin's daily-carry structure while the interior seam allows the bag to settle into a slightly softer shape over its first year of use.
