Black shiny porosus crocodile is the darkest, most formal register in which a Birkin can be written, and in the 35-centimetre format it becomes pure presence. Porosus — the saltwater crocodile prized above all other exotics for its small, symmetrical scale pattern — is here finished in the maison's lisse technique, polished with agate until the surface holds light like lacquer. Palladium hardware sharpens the monochrome. The Birkin 35 is the original working size: a genuine day bag with room for a life inside, its slouch and swagger entirely unlike its smaller siblings.
