The piece in detail

The tablier is the saddler's apron, and the Tablier Sellier wears its name honestly: a crossbody built like a piece of workshop equipment, all flat planes, layered flaps and visible construction logic. It is one of the most quietly experimental silhouettes in the recent Hermès catalogue, an archive-minded design that turns the codes of the atelier into something to be worn across the body. Where the Kelly formalises, the Tablier Sellier relaxes; the craftsmanship is identical. This example is Noir on Noir — smooth Swift and grained Hunter calfskin layered against black toile — an all-black composition in which the interest comes entirely from texture. Gold hardware is the single point of light, warming the black the way brass warms a workbench. Worn crossbody it has the ease of a satchel and the manners of a house that has been making straps and buckles since 1837. It sits flat against the body, takes phone, wallet, keys and a paperback, and leaves both hands free — a genuinely modern way to carry Hermès. The Tablier Sellier is produced in very small numbers and stocked in fewer boutiques still; many devoted Hermès clients have simply never seen one in person.
