Y (2021)

The Birkin 25 Himalayan in niloticus crocodile with palladium hardware is widely regarded as the most coveted Hermès bag in the world — the apex of the maison's exotic skin production. Year Y (2021) stamp, preloved. The Himalayan name refers to the bag's gradient finish, which fades from a deep smoky pearl at the base of the body to a soft snow-white at the top — evoking the play of light on Himalayan peaks at dawn. The effect is achieved through a labour-intensive dye process developed exclusively by Hermès; each skin is hand-finished by master tanners over many months, with no two bags exhibiting identical gradients. The white ceramic-look finish leaves the crocodile's natural square-scaled topography fully visible, lending the surface remarkable depth. Only a handful of qualifying niloticus crocodile skins per year meet the colour and grain standards required for Himalayan production. Each Birkin 25 Himalayan is therefore essentially unique, and the model has set successive auction records at Christie's and Sotheby's, including the diamond-set version that became the most expensive handbag ever sold. Palladium hardware in cool white-platinum tone preserves the icy crystalline character of the colour, complementing rather than competing with the gradient. The 25cm silhouette — the most fashion-driven Birkin proportion — keeps it firmly in the territory of personal collection rather than utility. Sourced through JULL's direct global trade network.
