Gold is the colour that made the Birkin legible to people who had never heard of Hermès. Not yellow, not tan, not camel — a warm saddle brown with a faint red undertone that shifts through the day, reading almost blond in July light and closer to cognac under a restaurant lamp. It is the reference point against which every other Hermès neutral is measured, and it is the first bag most serious collections are built around. Togo is the correct leather for it. The grain is fine and slightly raised, pressed from bull calf, and it holds structure without ever going rigid. Where Epsom would keep Gold flat and graphic, Togo lets the colour settle into the grain and gather depth at the corners and along the sangles.
