A Constance 18 in Dore chèvre with permabrass hardware — one of the more considered configurations in the current range, and a bag that reads with equal clarity in a suit pocket or against a coat. Brand new condition. Introduced in 1969 and named for the daughter of its designer Catherine Chaillet, the Constance occupies a specific position in the Hermès canon: it is a shoulder bag built around a single bold H clasp, flat-profiled and close to the body, designed for days when the bag should follow the wearer rather than announce itself. The 18 centimetre size is the smallest in the family, which makes it disciplined in its edit — a phone, cards, keys, and little else. Those who reach for it tend to do so consistently. Doré is a warm, saturated gold — not metallic, not honey, but the particular yellow that the French word for gilded actually describes. On chèvre, which is goatskin, the tone sits with a faint luminosity; the leather's natural density gives it structure while its surface takes colour with an evenness that smoother skins do not always achieve. The result is a piece that catches light without being ostentatious about it. The permabrass hardware echoes the warmth of the leather without doubling it, sitting in quiet agreement with the Doré rather than competing.
