The Birkin 25 in Béton is Hermès working in its most disciplined register: a colour with no obvious drama, applied to a skin that supplies all of it. Béton is the house's concrete grey, a cool chalky neutral sitting between Craie and Gris Perle, and it shifts warmer under evening light. In matte alligator the effect is architectural rather than decorative. Matte is the harder finish. Where shiny alligator hides small irregularities beneath lacquer, matte shows everything — the grain of each tile, the transition from belly to flank, the precision of the seam where scales meet. Here the centre row runs symmetrically down the front panel and the tiles graduate outward in even progression, the mark of a hide selected for a single bag rather than assembled from the best of several. Gold hardware against pale grey is a deliberately quiet pairing. Yellow gold warms the concrete tone without the contrast palladium would introduce. Turn-lock, sangles, clochette and cadenas sit flush, unmarked and free of indentation. At 25 cm the bag carries a phone, a slim wallet, a card case and keys. In exotic skin the size reads as jewellery rather than luggage: held in the hand at Claridge's or resting on a table at a private view, it does not announce itself until someone recognises the finish.
