Matte alligator in Havane, palladium hardware, and the Birkin 25 silhouette: this is a piece that announces itself without effort. Inspected by hand in our London workroom and verified with Entrupy. G stamp, unworn condition. At 25 centimetres the Birkin occupies the most precise point in the range — compact enough to move with the wearer through a full day, structured enough to hold its form on a desk or a dinner table without assistance. It is the size that collectors reach for first and fashion editors carry when they want the shape without the volume. Nothing about it is incidental. Havane is a tobacco brown of considerable depth, the name drawn from the Spanish word for Havana and the particular warmth associated with aged leaf. On matte alligator the colour reads differently depending on the light: in shade it is almost dark, with a reddish undertone that surfaces slowly; in direct light it takes on a richness that polished skins cannot replicate. The matte finish absorbs rather than reflects, which gives each scale its own character and the overall surface a restrained, almost graphic quality that no other leather achieves. The palladium hardware — turn-lock, bar and plaque — sits in cool contrast to the warm ground, sharpening the silhouette without competing with it. JULL holds this piece in our Chelsea Harbour showroom, where private viewings are available by appointment.
