Craie and black is the quietest kind of drama Hermès allows itself. A Birkin 25 built in two blocks — chalk-white body, deep black on the flap and handles — the contrast doing everything that colour usually has to shout to achieve. Brushed palladium finishes the argument: matte, silvered, entirely without shine, so the fittings sit into the leather rather than glinting off it. Together the three elements read as architecture, not decoration. Togo is the leather that suits this combination best.
