The piece in detail

There are pale bags, and then there is Craie — a chalk-soft neutral with a whisper of warm grey beneath it, named for the French word for chalk and behaving exactly like it: matte, mineral, quietly luminous. It is the shade collectors reach for when white feels too bridal and beige too safe, and it has held its place among the most requested neutrals in the Hermès palette for years. On a Birkin 25 the effect is particularly refined. The smallest of the Birkin sizes carries pale leather better than any other, because the proportions keep the colour graphic rather than expansive: a compact silhouette that reads almost as jewellery on the arm, yet still takes a phone, a card case, keys and a slim wallet without protest. Togo is the reason a chalk bag like this one can be worn rather than admired. The grained calfskin holds its structure through years of use, and its pebbled surface diffuses light — and the small marks of daily life — in a way no smooth leather manages.
