Craie is the colour Hermès reaches for when white would be too loud. It is chalk rather than paper — warm, faintly grey, with none of the blue cast that makes true whites look clinical — and it has quietly overtaken Gold as the neutral serious collectors ask for first. On Togo the tone settles into the grain rather than sitting on top of it, so the bag reads soft and matte from across a room and reveals its texture only in the hand. Togo is the reason this Birkin will age well. The grain is raised and irregular, pebbled unevenly by design, and it absorbs the small knocks of daily carrying without recording them. It is more forgiving than Epsom on corners and considerably more forgiving than box calf, which matters a great deal on a pale colour: scuffs disappear into the texture instead of announcing themselves along the base. Palladium is the disciplined choice against Craie. Gold warms the colour towards cream and pushes the bag towards evening; palladium holds it neutral and lets the leather do the talking. The turn-lock, feet, sangles and clochette are unmarked, the plating unbroken, and the protective film remains where Hermès applied it. At 25 centimetres this is the size that redefined the Birkin — small enough to be worn rather than carried, large enough for a phone, a card case, keys and a compact. In Craie with palladium it is close to the most requested configuration in the entire Birkin range, and rarely reaches the market unworn. Stamped K (2026) and store fresh, complete with box, dust bag, clochette, cadenas, two keys, raincoat and receipt. Inspected and photographed at JULL London. Priced at £25,500 — enquire for full condition detail and a private viewing by appointment in Knightsbridge.
