A studded clutch in dark red is as close as Hermès comes to rock and roll, and the Mini Medor plays the part with perfect manners. Its pyramid studs descend from the Medor dog collar the house made a century ago — hardware with a working past, polished into ornament. The colour is Rouge H, created in the 1920s and still the most patrician red on the chart: burgundy steeped toward black, the shade of old claret and older libraries. On Epsom leather it turns crisp and dry, the pressed grain holding the clutch's strict rectangle while the studs catch the palladium light. Cool white metal against wine-dark leather is a graphic, almost heraldic combination — the evening equivalent of a signet ring. The Mini Medor holds precisely what an evening requires and nothing it does not: cards, key, lipstick, the practised confidence of travelling light. It slips into an overcoat pocket on the way in and commands the table once it is out. Carried against black velvet it smoulders; against winter white it draws every eye in the cloakroom queue. Production runs are short and colourways rotate quickly; Rouge H editions in particular tend to be bought by the house's most seasoned clients the week they appear. A piece this small, this charged, in a red this permanent, very rarely returns to the open market once it finds its owner. Ours is store fresh with the blind stamp G — unmarked, unworn, every stud sharp and bright. It has been fully authenticated in-house by our specialists. View it at our Knightsbridge showroom by appointment; our personal shoppers can reserve it now or arrange worldwide insured delivery ahead of the season's first black-tie invitation.
